Research Associate (PostDoc) - 0.5 working time - salary grade E 13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

Severe socio-ecological challenges are increasingly putting our usual ways of doing under pressure. This crisis challenges us to develop new habits, new structures, cultures and practices. In this context, ‘learning’ is often seen as essential to transform our society in a more sustainable direction.
The central research question of the project ‘Transactional Investigations of learning in view of sustainability transitions’ (LESTRA), funded by the European Research Council (ERC), is how learning processes can contribute to sustainability transitions. For the work packages on data analysis and synthesis, we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to strengthen the research team ((subject to final funding approval)

Tasks:

• conduct social scientific research on the role of learning processes in sustainability transitions
• use conceptual and analytical frameworks developed in the LESTRA project and contribute to their further development
• conduct empirical analyses in case studies on sustainability transitions in food systems, mobility and energy based on data already collected by the project team
• close collaboration with the Principal Investigator to synthesise the findings throughout the LESTRA project
• communicate research results (e.g. presentations at academic conferences, scientific publications and publications/activities for a non-academic audience such as facilitating workshops for policy makers and/or actors involved in sustainability transitions)

• Successfully completed university degree (Diplom, Master or equivalent) and PhD in a social science research field with a focus on sustainability transformation/learning processes
• Experience in the design, implementation and evaluation of qualitative social science research methods
• Experience with the publication of scientific articles in peer reviewed journals
• Very good written and spoken English (project language is English)
• Experience with independent project work
• Experience with working in interdisciplinary and international teams

Desired criteria:

• Good knowledge of German (oral and written)
• Working in teams
• Previous experience with conceptual work in combination with empirical analyses helpful
• Experience with the application of learning theories desirable
