About us

The advertised temporary replacement position is based at the Chair of Modern Art History at the Institute of Art History and Historical Urban Studies at Technische Universität Berlin. In teaching, the institute pursues a practice- and object-oriented approach in the Bachelor’s program “Culture and Technology - Core Subject Art Studies” and in the research-oriented Master’s program “Art Studies,” with specializations in “Art Technology” and “Museum” (in cooperation with the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin). The focus of the chair lies on questions of art history as cultural history, as well as on the aesthetic, social, political, and institutional constellations that have shaped the production, circulation, and consumption of art since the 18th century.

Your responsibility

  • Participation in research and teaching (8 teaching hours per week), particularly in modern art history with a focus on contemporary art
  • Teaching courses within the interdisciplinary Bachelor’s program “Culture and Technology” as well as the research-oriented Master’s program “Art Studies”
  • Active involvement in shaping the institute’s profile, development of independent (project-)seminars and academic events

Your profile

  • Completed university degree (Master’s, Diploma, or equivalent) and a doctorate (PhD) in art history
  • At least three years of teaching experience in art history
  • Excellent knowledge of art history since the mid-20th century
  • Research interests clearly related to the chair’s focus areas (cultural transfer and network studies, exhibition and collection history, postcolonial approaches, art as a political category, institutional history)
  • Ability to teach in German and/or English is required; willingness to acquire missing language skills
  • Additionally expected: willingness to engage with the institute’s various research projects and ability to work in a team
