Research Assistant - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen - first qualification period (PhD candidate)

Research and teaching tasks in the research group Distributed and Operating Systems (DOS). Participation in the bachelor teaching of the chair, e.g. large lecture in the first term of Computer Science studies. Development of prototypes and experimental evaluation in the areas of distributed systems, parallel and distributed computing, cloud computing and embedded systems. Publication of research results.

• Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent)in computer engineering
• Good knowledge of distributed systems, operating systems, embedded systems and cloud computing
• Experience with networked embedded systems and their virtualization
• Very good programming skills in C / Rust /Go, Java and Python
• Good understanding of hardware architectures, fault tolerance and distributed processing
• Experience in the execution of LLMs with the help of inference and serving engines like vLLM
• Experience with low-level programming and operating system architectures
• Safe handling of common tools like Git, LaTeX as well as Linux or UNIX-like systems like FreeBSD
• The ability to teach in German and/or in English is required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
• Ability to carry out independent scientific work

Desirable:

• Experience in teaching and research, agile project management and iterative software development methods.
