The Institute for Art History and Historical Urban Studies at Technische Universität Berlin pursues a practice- and object-oriented approach, which is strongly reflected in the bachelor's program in Culture and Technology with the core subject Art History and the research-oriented master's program in Art Studies with the specializations Art Technology and Museum (in cooperation with the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, the Berlin state museums). The core concepts underlying teaching at the institute are the early introduction of students to academic work in the context of research and publication projects, as well as art historical work centered on the objects themselves.

Research and teaching associate (postdoc) – salary grade E 13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen – 2nd qualification period (for first assumption of a full professorship)

Tasks

  • research and teaching, especially in the visual arts of the early modern period; teaching courses in the interdisciplinary bachelor's program in Culture and Technology and the master's program in Art Studies
  • contributing to the design and supervision of a lab for digital research and teaching projects; developing your own research project with the goal of gaining further qualifications for a university career
  • participating in the organizational and administrative tasks of the chair and institute

Requirements

  • higher university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) and doctorate in art history/art studies with a specialization in the pre-modern
  • knowledge in the field of digital humanities
  • the ability to teach in German and English – or the willingness to acquire the corresponding language skills – is a requirement

Desirable qualifications and skills:

  • research interests in the early modern period
  • ability to work in a team and openness to interdisciplinary and transcultural issues
  • teaching experience
