The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Institute for Education Studies, invites applications for a Juniorprofessorship for Democracy Education at the Primary Level with a focus on General Studies in Primary Education (Sachunterricht) and its Didactics (with a tenure track leading to a W3-professorship) starting as soon as possible.
This is a W1 tenure track to W3 position. In order to verify whether the individual performance meets the requirements of a permanent employment, an evaluation process will be opened not later than after five years of service. Tenure track professors at the HU Berlin are expected to carry out research and teach, as well as be active on various university committees and acquire leadership and management skills. Tasks
The professorship is to represent topics of democracy education with a special focus on primary school and “General Studies in Primary Education” (Sachunterricht)” and its didactics.
A research and teaching profile is expected with a focus on the following areas:
- Democracy education/political education in primary schools
- General Studies in Primary Education (Sachunterricht) and its didactics, especially with reference to the scientific and didactic foundations of the social sciences.
The duties of the professorship include research and teaching in the field of General Studies in Primary Education (Sachunterricht) and its didactics, social science-related aspects in and for the primary level, as well as social science didactic content, also with reference to the special features of the 6-year primary school in Berlin (teaching in the primary school teaching profession, especially in General Studies in Primary Education (Sachunterricht) and its didactics, as well as in the subject- or profession-related supplement in Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees) and participation in examinations and the self-administration of the university.
In addition, cooperation with the other departments of the Institute for Education Studies, the Joint Commission for Primary School Teachers, the Committee for „Sachunterricht und seine Didaktik“ with the reference subjects, with the Professional School of Education (PSE) as well as other institutions of Humboldt-Universität but also non-university actors such as the State Agency for Civic Education (Landeszentrale für Politische Bildung) is desired.
Applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 102c in connection with § 102a of the “Berliner Hochschulgesetz,” and here in particular also those of § 100 (3) (three years of school experience or comparable practical experience).
