The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Institute for Education Studies, invites applications for a W3 professorship for ‘Mathematics and its Didactics in Primary Education’ to be filled as soon as possible.
The current teacher training programme in Berlin was designed with the aim of developing a high-quality, research-based curriculum that prepares teacher training students for the high demands of the profession and supports practitioners in the consistent development of their professionalism.
W3 professorship for ‘Mathematics and its Didactics in Primary Education’
Tasks
The future holder of this position is expected to contribute to the design and coordination of the teacher training programme for primary schools in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary manner and to have proven research expertise in several (at least three) of the following areas:
- Analysis of mathematical teaching and learning processes in primary schools (grades 1-6)
- Diagnosing mathematical learning levels in primary school children
- Promoting mathematical learning processes in primary school children in the context of heterogeneity and inclusion
- Difference-sensitive teaching research in mathematics education
- Development of learning environments that enable the handling of heterogeneity in primary school mathematics teaching.
- Embodied cognition in mathematics education
The successful candidate should be able to cover all subject-specific mathematics and mathematics education teaching in primary school teacher training programmes for grades 1 to 6, including supervision of practical school events.
Excellent, preferably internationally visible research activity in mathematics education teaching and learning research is expected; experience in successfully acquiring third-party funding is also expected. Active publication of research, particularly in peer-reviewed journals, is also desirable.
Requirements
Prerequisites for appointment are a relevant university degree in mathematics and its didactics, an outstanding doctorate and a relevant habilitation or equivalent qualifications in mathematics education.
Furthermore, the ability to cooperate within the Institute of Education, with the institutes of mathematics, the Institute of Special Education and beyond, the Professional School of Education (PSE) and the Interdisciplinary Centre Humboldt-ProMINT-Kolleg is expected.
Applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the “Berliner Hochschulgesetz,” and here in particular also those of § 100 (3) (three years of school experience or comparable practical experience).
