Tasks

The Moon is exposed to strong tidal forces and undergoing recurring cycles of deformation. The Postdoc will develop and evaluate full 3D viscoelastic tidal deformation models, correspondingly. The postdoc will adapt the well-known mantle convection code GAIA, previously developed at DLR (German Aerospace Center), to include this type of tidal modeling. The postdoc will participate at regular meetings organized by the GAIA code developer team at DLR to develop the viscoelastic tidal model and couple it with the convection code.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed scientific university studies (Master, Diplom or equivalent) and PhD in physics/geophysics/mathematics or similar
  • Solid programming experience in high level computer languages such as C++, Fortran, Python or similar
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience with parallel computing, in particular MPI
