The Institute of Machine Tools and Factory Management at Faculty V – Mechanical Engineering and Transport Systems at Technische Universität Berlin invites applications for a
university professorship – pay scale W3
for the field of Quality Science as a permanent position.
Tasks
Duties include teaching courses on the fundamentals, methods, and applications of quality science in the engineering science components of bachelor's and master's programs as well as in the Industrial Engineering and Management master’s program. Courses are to be taught in German and English.
The research fields covered by the professorship of Quality Science relate in particular to the redevelopment and further development of existing QM methods as part of the digitalization of operationally effective quality processes and the sustainable alignment of quality processes through the use of AI and data analytics. Taking into account technical, social, legal, economic, ecological, and ethical aspects, research focuses on the manufacturing processes of products, supporting services, and the planning, controlling, and monitoring processes in the product life cycle.
Further responsibilities include leading and managing the department and its staff; supporting the advancement of junior scholars, women, and diversity; knowledge and technology transfer; initiatives to promote internationalization; gender and diversity competence and sustainability-oriented action; as well as committee work.
Requirements
Hiring requirements are based on Sections 100 et seq. of the Berlin State Higher Education Act. These include a relevant degree in engineering or natural sciences, for example in mechanical engineering or industrial engineering and management; a particular aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the quality of the applicant’s doctorate; additional academic achievements (e.g. a positively evaluated junior professorship, a Habilitation, or work equivalent to a Habilitation); an aptitude for teaching documented in a teaching portfolio (for further details, please refer to the website of Technische Universität Berlin https://www.tu.berlin/go209650/).
In-depth scientific knowledge in the field of the advertised professorship is mandatory.
Candidates must have international expertise and experience in applied research and teaching in quality management and quality assurance. A readiness to collaborate in research and teaching is a further prerequisite.
Preference will be given to applicants with several years of practical professional experience with an international focus, preferably in a management position.
Experience in the management of and/or participation in basic research projects and research networks in the field of the professorship is desirable.
The successful candidate will have experience promoting junior scholars and knowledge and technology transfer, and possess gender and diversity competence as well as awareness of sustainability issues.
As a university with an international profile, we require our professors to have excellent English-language skills and we welcome applications from candidates whose first language is not German who are committed to quickly learning the language.
