Technische Universität Berlin offers an open position:

Research associate with permanent duties (PostDoc) - 0.5 working time - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

Tasks

  • Coordination and networking of research activities at the Institute of Architecture (IfA);
  • Participation in the initiation of overarching research initiatives at the Institute of Architecture and Faculty VI;
  • Acquisition and independent management of third-party funded projects at national and international level at Habitat Unit on the chair’s current topics (sustainable urban-rural development in an international perspective, globalisation and translocal exchange relationships, infrastructural landscapes, collaborative planning and bottom-up urbanism);
  • Organisation of doctoral colloquia, scientific workshops and international conferences at the Institute of Architecture and the chair (Habitat Unit);
  • Writing and editing of academic publications, collaboration on publications at Habitat Unit;
  • Organisation of teaching courses at Habitat Unit and participation in the further development of the chair’s teaching concept; in particular preparation and management of German and English-language design studios and seminars closely related to the chair’s main research areas as well as seminars on approaches and methods of architectural and urban research and scientific work within the spatial and planning disciplines.
  • Active participation in academic self-administration is desirable.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) and PhD in architecture, urban design or urban planning in the chair’s field of work;
  • proven research experience of several years as well as experience in leading or coordinating interdisciplinary collaborative research teams on relevant topics of the chair;
  • proven experience in the acquisition of third-party funding;
  • proven experience in the organisation of international scientific workshops and conferences;
  • scientific publications and solid knowledge of the literature on the chair’s current research topics, especially in the following areas:
    o translocal and multiscale urban research along material flows
    o sustainable urban-rural development and planning in an international perspective;
  • After completing the university degree, at least three years of academic or professional-practical work in a full-time employment relationship;
  • several years of teaching experience in design and research methods in the field of urban planning, urban design, urban studies, as well as in research-oriented courses on topics relevant to the chair;
  • The ability to teach in German and/or in English is required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
