The research assistant will work within the project “eHaul: electrification of long haul heavy-duty commercial vehicles with automated battery swapping stations” as a part of a team encompassing university partners as well as the industry partners. The eHaul project aims at building a battery swapping station in the outskirts of Berlin within the project duration and use it for long-haul logistics. The research assistant will be located with the Smart Mobility Systems research group (https://www.sms.tu-berlin.de/) at TU Berlin and work as a team with other scientific staff in the project.
The candidate will research on the charging infrastructure for swappable batteries in long-haul commercial vehicles. The candidate will engage in a discussion with the industry partners of the project to procure the suitable charging equipment and ensure that the requirements of the swapping station from the perspective of the electrical system are met. The candidate is also encouraged to actively interact with other research institutions to participate in the analysis of the data acquired during the operation of the project and perform research.
The tasks for this position include (i) the publication of the research outcomes in scientific papers and presentation to national and international conferences, (ii) procuring the charging equipment fulfilling the swapping station requirements, and (iii) guidance to BSc/MSc students in their thesis preparation. Finally, the position also includes the option to prepare a PhD thesis within the scope of ide3a topics.
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in electrical engineering, computer science or engineering disciplines, including automotive and transportation engineering or a related field
Good programming skills in at least one programming language
Solid background in system analysis or mathematical modelling
Prior experience in electric vehicle charging infrastructure, simulation of electrical systems and/or battery systems, traffic systems modelling, energy management
Excellent communication skills, teamwork skills, proactive behavior, and commitment
Very good written and oral language skills in English - at least C1 level
Preferable: good written and oral language skills in German
Preferable: experience in scientific or industrial environment
