Work­ing field:

The research assist­ant will work within the pro­ject “eHaul: elec­tri­fic­a­tion of long haul heavy-duty com­mer­cial vehicles with auto­mated bat­tery swap­ping sta­tions” as a part of a team encom­passing uni­versity part­ners as well as the industry part­ners. The eHaul pro­ject aims at build­ing a bat­tery swap­ping sta­tion in the out­skirts of Ber­lin within the pro­ject dur­a­tion and use it for long-haul logist­ics. The research assist­ant will be loc­ated with the Smart Mobil­ity Sys­tems research group (https://www.sms.tu-berlin.de/) at TU Ber­lin and work as a team with other sci­entific staff in the pro­ject.

The can­did­ate will research on the char­ging infra­struc­ture for swap­pable bat­ter­ies in long-haul com­mer­cial vehicles. The can­did­ate will engage in a dis­cus­sion with the industry part­ners of the pro­ject to pro­cure the suit­able char­ging equip­ment and ensure that the require­ments of the swap­ping sta­tion from the per­spect­ive of the elec­trical sys­tem are met. The can­did­ate is also encour­aged to act­ively inter­act with other research insti­tu­tions to par­ti­cip­ate in the ana­lysis of the data acquired dur­ing the oper­a­tion of the pro­ject and per­form research.

The tasks for this pos­i­tion include (i) the pub­lic­a­tion of the research out­comes in sci­entific papers and present­a­tion to national and inter­na­tional con­fer­ences, (ii) pro­cur­ing the char­ging equip­ment ful­filling the swap­ping sta­tion require­ments, and (iii) guid­ance to BSc/MSc stu­dents in their thesis pre­par­a­tion. Finally, the pos­i­tion also includes the option to pre­pare a PhD thesis within the scope of ide3a top­ics.

Require­ments:

  • Suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) in elec­trical engin­eer­ing, com­puter sci­ence or engin­eer­ing dis­cip­lines, includ­ing auto­mot­ive and trans­port­a­tion engin­eer­ing or a related field
  • Good pro­gram­ming skills in at least one pro­gram­ming lan­guage
  • Solid back­ground in sys­tem ana­lysis or math­em­at­ical mod­el­ling
  • Prior exper­i­ence in elec­tric vehicle char­ging infra­struc­ture, sim­u­la­tion of elec­trical sys­tems and/or bat­tery sys­tems, traffic sys­tems mod­el­ling, energy man­age­ment
  • Excel­lent com­mu­nic­a­tion skills, team­work skills, pro­act­ive beha­vior, and com­mit­ment
  • Very good writ­ten and oral lan­guage skills in Eng­lish - at least C1 level
  • Prefer­able: good writ­ten and oral lan­guage skills in Ger­man
  • Prefer­able: exper­i­ence in sci­entific or indus­trial envir­on­ment
