Freie Universität Berlin - Cluster of Excellence "Contestations of the Liberal Script" (SCRIPTS) - Exzellenzausschreibungen

Research Assistant (Praedoc) (m/f/d)

65%-part-time job | limited to 3 years | Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L FU | Reference code: SCRIPTS_Fedu

Working field:

The Cluster of Excellence „Contestations of the Liberal Script” (SCRIPTS) analyses the contemporary controversies about the liberal order from a historical, global, and comparative perspective. It connects the academic expertise in the social sciences and humanities as well as area studies in Berlin, collaborates with research institutions in all world regions, and maintains cooperative ties with major political, cultural and social institutions [http://www.scripts-berlin.eu].

The project “Negotiating the Futures of Education”, analyses the ways in which competing visions of the future of education are negotiated and contested within international organizations. It focusses in particular on how narratives about the future of education are constructed by two projects by the UNESCO ("Future of Education") and the OECD ("Future of education and skills 2030"). Our main focus will be directed towards the micropolitical “backstage” processes underpinning the construction of the respective narratives of the future(s) of education. We are particularly interested in the ways in which the inclusion of previously marginalized voices in the consultative processes underpinning projects does or does not challenge reigning “orthodoxies” in the liberal education script. The project employs a qualitative approach, relying particularly on ethnographic methods, narrative and discourse analysis.

We value diversity and welcome all applications – independent of gender, nationality, ethnic and social background, religion, disability, age, sexual orientation and identity. Applications from members of underrepresented groups in the academy are especially welcome. Applications from people with an acknowledged disability status will be considered preferentially.

Job description:
