for the chair of "Design for Addit­ive Man­u­fac­tur­ing (DFAM)".

The pro­fess­or­ship is part of the Werner-von-Siemens Centre for Industry and Sci­ence (WvSC) and it is inten­ded that the pos­i­tion is asso­ci­ated with the lead­er­ship of the cen­ter for "3D Tech­no­lo­gies and Addit­ive Man­u­fac­tur­ing".

Work­ing field:

Con­duct­ing research and teach­ing in the field of Design for Addit­ive Man­u­fac­tur­ing (AM). Both the­or­et­ical poten­tial assess­ments and exper­i­mental val­id­a­tions must be integ­rated in a new devel­op­ment meth­od­o­logy.
The research will invest­ig­ate the new design pos­sib­il­it­ies cre­ated by AM in dif­fer­ent applic­a­tion domains and ana­lyze the con­struct­ive free­dom of AM in com­par­ison to other man­u­fac­tur­ing pro­cesses. The new devel­op­ment meth­od­o­lo­gies must be suit­able for imple­ment­a­tion in digital devel­op­ment tools and should sup­port future agile devel­op­ment pro­cesses. Focus should be put on
  • AM design rules includ­ing com­pon­ent optim­iz­a­tion
  • Integ­rat­ive product devel­op­ment pro­cess under con­sid­er­a­tion of addit­ive man­u­fac­tur­ing
  • Design for X under con­sid­er­a­tion of addit­ive man­u­fac­tur­ing
  • Auto­mated design sup­port using arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence
Teach­ing the basics of engin­eer­ing design and DFAM in the engin­eer­ing Bach­elor's pro­grams as part of exist­ing courses as well as in the con­text of inde­pend­ent courses. In the mas­ter's pro­grams, spe­cial­ized DFAM courses and labor­at­ory exer­cises are to be offered.

Require­ments:

Can­did­ates must ful­fill the appoint­ment require­ments for pro­fess­or­ships in accord­ance with §100 Ber­lHG (Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act) [inform­a­tion sheet avail­able by request]. This includes a com­pleted course of aca­demic stud­ies in a rel­ev­ant field, qual­i­fied achieve­ments in research (PhD), post-doc­toral lec­ture qual­i­fic­a­tion (Habil­it­a­tion) or equi­val­ent sci­entific achieve­ments, and ped­ago­gical didactic qual­i­fic­a­tions (proven by a teach­ing port­fo­lio. The future holder of the pos­i­tion is expec­ted to have proven sci­entific know­ledge in the above-men­tioned field of voca­tion from applic­a­tion-related tech­no­logy research and the abil­ity to develop and val­id­ate tech­nical sys­tem solu­tions.
A per­son­al­ity is sought that offers a high degree of will­ing­ness to cooper­ate with aca­demic and indus­trial part­ners and that fur­ther­more has the qual­i­fic­a­tions for per­son­nel man­age­ment. Prac­tical work exper­i­ence with an inter­na­tional ori­ent­a­tion related to the work­ing field men­tioned above is desir­able.
Proven exper­i­ence in the acquis­i­tion and, if pos­sible, man­age­ment of national and inter­na­tional third-party fun­ded pro­jects is required.
Very good Eng­lish skills are desir­able. For non-Ger­man speak­ing applic­ants, the will­ing­ness to learn the lan­guage is expec­ted. Courses have to be taught in Ger­man and Eng­lish.
