With BIFOLD, a cross-institutional and cross-disciplinary competence centre is being created, where scientists want to research and further develop new approaches in the fields of Big Data (BD) and Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). BIFOLD supports independent junior research groups in application-oriented basic research in mathematics and computer science in order to specifically promote excellent young scientists* with several years of postdoctoral experience and to give them a head start in building up their own research profile and group in the supporting environment of a large competence center.
The offered position is one of the leading positions of a BIFOLD junior research group at the FU Berlin. We are looking for a candidate with extensive experience and independent research results in the field of machine learning, especially in ML for the sciences. She or he must be able to demonstrate internationally visible theoretical research results and applications to real complex systems and to build bridges into possible fields of application. She or he has experience in the scientific orientation, acquisition and/or implementation of third-party funded projects.
Dissertation in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or related disciplines.
Experience in theory or method development in Machine Learning, especially at the interface between ML and the sciences.
Experience in handling complex real world data sets
Application experience in natural or social sciences
Experience in interdisciplinary cooperation
