Work­ing field:

Devel­op­ment and fab­ric­a­tion of micro­laser arrays based on semi­con­duc­tor quan­tum dots. The micro­laser arrays are to be real­ized via the pre­posi­tio­ned growth of semi­con­duc­tor quan­tum dots act­ing as gain medium. The micro­laser arrays are to be used in the field of neur­omor­phic com­put­ing in order to imple­ment optic­ally integ­rated neural net­works. The tasks include the design and epi­taxial growth of the ini­tial struc­tures as well as the pro­ces­sing of the micro­laser arrays in the Nan­o­pho­ton­ics Cen­ter of the TU Ber­lin. Fur­ther­more, the devices are to be char­ac­ter­ized spec­tro­scop­ic­ally and optim­ized with the exter­nal pro­ject part­ner for use in the field of opti­cal reser­voir com­put­ing. PhD the­sis pre­par­a­tion is pos­sible.

Require­ments:

Suc­cess­fully com­ple­ted uni­ver­sity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) in app­lied phys­ics or phys­ics; as part of the the­sis, app­lic­ants should have pre­fer­ably gai­ned first exper­i­ence in the exper­i­men­tal study of semi­con­duc­tor quan­tum dots dur­ing the final the­sis. Prac­tical know­ledge in semi­con­duc­tor epi­taxy and / or clean room tech­no­lo­gies is also desir­able. A good com­mand of the Eng­lish lan­guage is desi­red.
