Uni­ver­sity Pro­fes­sor - salary grade W3

for the chair of "Cel­lu­lar Repro­duc­tion Bio­tech­no­logy".

The pos­i­tion is to be filled in an appoint­ment pro­ced­ure within the frame­work of the "Ber­liner Mod­ell".

Work­ing field:

The pro­fess­or­ship is expec­ted to con­trib­ute to research and teach­ing in the field of cel­lu­lar repro­duc­tion bio­tech­no­logy in the MSc pro­gram Bio­tech­no­logy. The pos­i­tion is coupled with the pos­i­tion of Head of the Depart­ment of Repro­duc­tion Bio­logy (Suc­ces­sion of Prof. Jew­genow) at the Leib­niz Insti­tute for Zoo and Wild­life Research (IZW), Ber­lin ( Research activ­it­ies should focus on under­stand­ing the func­tional biod­iversity of gam­etes and cells of the male and female repro­duct­ive tracts, their inter­ac­tions, as well as bio­molecules which mod­u­late cell func­tions in the repro­duct­ive pro­cess (gam­ete mat­ur­a­tion, female cycle, sea­son­al­ity). The cre­at­ive use of mod­ern cell cul­ture tech­niques for improv­ing assisted repro­duc­tion aims to yield long-term sup­port for cap­tive breed­ing pro­grams of threatened wild­life spe­cies.


Can­did­ates must qual­ify for appoint­ment accord­ing to the require­ments of §100 of the Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act (Ber­lHG). These entail a com­pleted uni­versity degree in Bio­logy, Bio­chem­istry, Veter­in­ary Medi­cine, Agri­cul­tural Sci­ences or sim­ilar denom­in­a­tion, sci­entific qual­i­fic­a­tions (Dis­ser­ta­tion), “Habil­it­a­tion” or equi­val­ent qual­i­fic­a­tions (high qual­ity sci­entific pub­lic­a­tions), abil­ity to pro­cure third-party-funds as well as teach­ing aptitude, evid­enced by teach­ing exper­i­ence and presen­ted as a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for fur­ther inform­a­tion please see the TUB web­site, dir­ect access 144242).
We are look­ing for an inter­na­tion­ally renowned per­son­al­ity with a lead­ing-edge research focus in the field of repro­duc­tion bio­logy and repro­duc­tion bio­tech­no­logy of mam­mals, doc­u­mented by excel­lent pub­lic­a­tions as well as exper­i­ence in pro­cur­ing and coordin­at­ing third-party fun­ded pro­jects (par­tic­u­larly col­lab­or­at­ive pro­jects). Diverse exper­i­ences with mod­ern cell cul­ture tech­niques (3D, “organ on a chip”) as well as cell physiolo­gical and endo­crino­lo­gical meth­ods in answer­ing cur­rent repro­duc­tion bio­lo­gical ques­tions on mam­mals in an evol­u­tion­ary con­text are an asset. Exper­i­ence in work­ing with wild­life is an advant­age. The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate is expec­ted to demon­strate uni­versity didactic com­pet­ence / didactical/paed­ago­gical aptitude as well as the abil­ity to lead teams in research and teach­ing. Com­pet­ence in sup­port­ing junior research­ers and women as well as in gender-sens­it­ive teach­ing is desir­able. The will­ing­ness and pro­fi­ciency to teach classes in Eng­lish is a pre­requis­ite.

We are look­ing for­ward to applic­a­tions from innov­at­ive and integ­rat­ive per­son­al­it­ies with the com­mit­ment to close inter­dis­cip­lin­ary col­lab­or­a­tion with other depart­ments of the IZW, with the chairs of the Insti­tute of Bio­tech­no­logy and the Fac­ulty Prozess­wis­senschaften as well as other Fac­ulties of Tech­nis­che Uni­versität Ber­lin, other uni­versity and non-uni­versity insti­tutes in Ber­lin, as well as the will­ing­ness to integ­rate into and act­ively develop regional and inter­na­tional research alli­ances and research foci.
