The Database Systems and Information Management (DIMA) Group at TU Berlin is currently seeking to hire a Research Associate (PhD student) to conduct research and development in the area of scalable stream processing systems for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Currently, we are building a novel data stream processing system that is capable of handling thousands of queries over millions of sensors. Candidates should be interested in fog computing architectures, edge computing technologies, and systems building tasks (e.g., designing, implementing, and evaluating novel algorithms) and motivated to address challenges prevalent in highly-distributed and volatile IoT environments. We encourage applications from highly motivated candidates who wish to contribute to the development of a novel data stream processing system for IoT applications.
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in computer science with a focus on data management, distributed systems, or scalable data analysis. You should be interested in working in a leading research field, developing a novel system, and conducting research in real-world application settings. Knowledge on one or more of the following areas is highly desired: data processing, programming languages and compilers, distributed systems, data analysis and machine learning, and parallel computing. Candidates must have good communication skills in English and be proficient in programming languages, such as Java or C++.
