The Chair of Fluid Dynam­ics at the Insti­tute of Fluid Dynam­ics and Tech­nical Acous­tics (Her­mann-Föt­tinger-Insti­tut) of the TU Ber­lin is con­duct­ing invest­ig­a­tions in the field of bio­gas com­bus­tion.

Work­ing field:

The area of respons­ib­il­ity essen­tially com­prises two sub-aspects. The first one is to carry out the exer­cise for the course "tur­bu­lence and flow con­trol" includ­ing the super­vi­sion of the stu­dents and all admin­is­trat­ive tasks related to the course.
The second aspect includes research in the field of bio­gas com­bus­tion. In the gas­i­fic­a­tion of bio­ma­ter­i­als partly extremely low cal­or­ific fuels with high inert gas frac­tions arise. The chal­lenge here is to achieve a high com­bus­tion effi­ciency. In addi­tion, the gas may con­tain tar and ammo­nia, which may lead to a high con­cen­tra­tion of nitro­gen oxides and unburned hydro­car­bons in the exhaust gas. In order to turn this bio­gas into a regen­er­at­ive energy source, it is neces­sary to develop a com­bus­tion sys­tem that ensures highly effi­cient, low-emis­sion com­bus­tion in a gas tur­bine des­pite the above-men­tioned fuel com­pon­ents. The devel­op­ment of such a com­bus­tion cham­ber as well as the ther­mo­dy­namic mod­el­ing of the entire sys­tem are the focus of the sci­entific activ­ity and should be com­pleted with a doc­tor­ate.


  • suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree in engin­eer­ing stud­ies (Dip­lom, Mas­ter or equi­val­ent) in phys­ical engin­eer­ing, pro­cess engin­eer­ing, aerospace, etc.
  • exper­i­ence in the oper­a­tion of com­bus­tion test benches
  • basic know­ledge of com­bus­tion kin­et­ics, emis­sion gen­er­a­tion and flow dia­gnostics
  • exper­i­ence in ther­mo­dy­namic sys­tem mod­el­ing
  • com­mu­nic­a­tion skills, exper­i­ence in team­work, excel­lent know­ledge of Ger­man and Eng­lish
