Work­ing field:

The successful applicant will cover research and teaching in the field of macroeconomics.

Appointment requirements are governed by Section 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).

Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Section 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:

The appointee will be expected to actively participate in supervising and further developing the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in economics at Freie Universität Berlin and to actively contribute to doctoral-level training and education within the Berlin School of Economics. The new professor will also be responsible for managing the Chair of the Deutsche Bundesbank Guest Professorship. They will be expected to acquire and assist in designing and managing externally funded, interdisciplinary research projects, research groups, and partnership projects. As the appointee is expected to offer courses in German and English, they must have a keen interest in acquiring the adequate language skills within an appropriate period from the date of employment. They will also be expected to teach courses in ways that are sensitive to gender and diversity issues.

Require­ments:

Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate outstanding research achievements in the field of macroeconomics using modern methods to analyze issues relevant to economic policy. The appointee’s research should also complement current research areas in the department and within the Berlin University Alliance. Applicants are asked to submit a concept paper with their application, showing how they meet this requirement.

Candidates should have a background of successful, preferably international academic teaching at the university level, including experience in acquiring and leading externally funded research projects. Candidates should preferably demonstrate a good level of German language proficiency, along with the ability to teach courses in English.

Please include information on involvement in ongoing and future re-search endeavors, joint research projects, externally funded projects, along with a separate concept paper demonstrating how your research complements the department’s current re-search areas, and, if necessary, language certificates.
