As part of the federal and state program for the advancement of junior scholars, Technische Universität Berlin, Faculty IV - Electrical Engineering and Computer Science -, currently has a vacancy for a

tenure track professorship – renumeration group W1, 3+3 years fixed term, to be continued as a lifetime professorship, renumeration group W3
for the area of Media and Information Engineering.

This professorship should be seen in the context of Technische Universität Berlin’s goal to recruit and advance junior scholars in the early stage of their career. The tenure track professorship is initially limited to three years. The position shall be renewed for a further three years conditional upon the postholder’s performance and agreement. After six years, as a rule, a lifelong professorship will be offered conditional upon the fulfillment of the determined evaluation criteria and hiring requirements for a lifelong professorship. Work­ing field:

The professorship will be dedicated to new research questions from selected areas of electrical engineering, information technology and media technology, which are at the interfaces of existing disciplines (especially "Telecommunications", "Media Technology", "Computer Graphics", "Computer Vision and Remote Sensing", "Quality and Usability" and "Light Engineering"). Possible research topics are Audio and Speech Signal Analysis or Virtual and Augmented Reality, but excellent applications for other foci are also welcome. The research foci are to be incorporated into teaching, both through teaching in the courses of study supervised by the faculty (especially Electrical Engineering, Media Technology and/or Computer Engineering) and through the further development of the curricula.

Require­ments:

Candidates must fulfill the hiring requirements pursuant to Section 102c Berlin State Higher Education Act in combination with Section 102a Berlin State Higher Education Act. Of particular importance are a university degree in electrical engineering, information technology or media technology or a related subject, a strong aptitude for research demonstrated, as a rule, by an outstanding doctorate in the mentioned subjects as well as teaching skills demonstrated by a teaching portfolio (for further information about the portfolio, see Technische Universität Berlin’s website, https://www.tu-berlin.de/menue/university_institutions/executive_board/projekte_des_praesidiums/neuberufene/berufungsportal/applying_for_a_professorship/teaching_portfolio/parameter/en/).
Due to the intentionally very broad range of subjects, the TUB is looking for a personality who is scientifically excellent in a field of electrical engineering, information technology and/or media technology. Applicants should have extensive knowledge and experience in one or more research areas, which lie at the interface of existing departments of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. These could be, for example - and without restriction of the selection - the following research areas:
  • Audio and Speech Signal Analysis
  • Virtual and Augmented Reality.
Experience in the cooperation with related fields, the organization of projects and the acquisition of research contracts in industry and public funding organizations are desired.
