Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty VI - Institute for Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning

Research assistant with focus on teaching - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

part-time employment may be possible

Working field:

Visualisation and design are of central importance for landscape architecture, but also for the com-munication of its results. The mastery of their methods forms the indispensable basic framework for the development and understanding of solutions in landscape architecture. Besides teaching of basic knowledge and fundamental skills, an active, future-oriented and critical examination of the dynami-cally evolving digital and hybrid methods of visualisation and design has to be carried out. This ena-bles graduates to cope with complex tasks and to be internationally competitive.

The task of the position holder is therefore to convey the relevant knowledge and skills of visualiza-tion and design in landscape architecture in a didactically high-quality manner, which also actively takes up future developments. Teaching is primarily carried out in the study programs of Landscape architecture, but also in the bachelor course Ecology and Environmental planning. Teaching duties currently comprise 14 hours per week per semester (Semesterwochenstunden).

Fulfillment of the hiring requirements according to §110a BerlHG; this includes a successfully com-pleted university degree (master's degree, diploma, or equivalent) in landscape architecture or a related discipline and pedagogical aptitude as well as at least three years of academic or profession-al practical experience. The ability to teach in both German and English is required.

The future position holder is familiar with the requirements of landscape architecture in teaching, practice and research. This includes mastery of various analogue, digital and hybrid methods of visualisation and design in landscape architecture. These are doing justice to traditional as well as changing and experimental design practices. The requirements include simple design-supporting plan visualisations and models, communication of complex conceptual approaches, process-oriented and participative forms of presentation as well as to high-end communication and digital design tools.

Required qualifications for the position are:
  • Knowledge design in landscape architecture at various scales and of the materials used in the process (plants, building materials)
  • Competence in design-supporting visualisation and design, both in the design process as well as in the presentation of its results. This includes central techniques such as collage, sketch, free-hand drawing, model making, plan, section, perspective, detail
  • Competence in visualisation in the context of landscape architectural implementation planning: technical plans, concept plans, construction drawings, sections, details, planting plans
  • Competence in the field of communication-supporting visualisations and the digital tools neces-sary for this: Vectorworks, AutoCAD, Rhinoceros 3D, Cinema4D, Sketchup, image processing, virtual reality, simulations, GIS)
  • Knowledge of environmental planning instruments (landscape planning, environmental assess-ments) and their requirements on visualisation by maps or the willingness to acquire this knowledge as quickly as possible

Furthermore, is expected:
  • Methodological competence regarding layout and presentation techniques: graphics, brochures, publishing publications, exhibitions and websites
  • that applicants have ideas on how presentation methods in landscape architecture can be further developed in terms of design and/or technically and how this can be done in the context of uni-versity research.
