Work­ing field:

The EU project GlycoSpec aims to investigate fundamental aspects of the reaction and fragmentation mechanisms of oligosaccharides. For this purpose, a novel instrument combining ion mobility mass spectrometry and gas-phase infrared spectroscopy will be developed in a first step. The basis for the development is a commercially available ion mobility mass spectrometer. Subsequently, the newly developed instrument is used to structurally investigate reactive cationic intermediates from sugar chemistry and fragments from glycan mass spectrometry.

Job description:
 Implementation of glycosylation reactions under reproducible conditions and quantitative analysis of the resulting products. Structural investigation of the relevant intermediates by ion mobility mass spectrometry and gas-phase IR spectroscopy. Comparison of experimental data with theoretical calculations. Development of models for the prediction of glycosylation reactions.


  • Completed doctorate in Organic Chemistry

(Professional) Experience:
  • Experience with the chemical synthesis of oligosaccharides

  • In-depth knowledge of the chemistry of protecting groups and neighboring group effects


  • Experience in mass spectrometry and related techniques
  • Experience with artificial intelligence and automated learning processes

  • Experience with quantum chemical methods

  • Good command of written and spoken English
