Ten­ure-Track-Pro­fess­or­ship, remu­ner­a­tion group W1, fixed term, to be con­tin­ued as a life­time pro­fess­or­ship, remu­ner­a­tion group W3,

in “Social Cohe­sion, Diver­sity and Migra­tion in Spa­tial Plan­ning”.

This pro­fess­or­ship should be seen in the con­text of Tech­nis­che Uni­ver­si­tät Ber­lin’s goal to recruit and advance junior schol­ars in the very early stage of their career. The ten­ure track pro­fess­or­ship is ini­tially lim­ited to three years. The pos­i­tion shall be rene­wed for a fur­ther three years con­di­tio­nal upon the pos­thol­der’s per­form­ance and agree­ment. After six years, as a rule, a lifel­ong pro­fess­or­ship will be offe­red con­di­tio­nal upon the ful­fill­ment of the determ­ined eval­u­ation cri­teria and hir­ing require­ments for a lifel­ong pro­fess­or­ship. Work­ing field:

The pro­fess­or­ship should rep­res­ent the aspects of social cohe­sion, diver­sity, and migra­tion in urban and regio­nal plan­ning in rese­arch and teach­ing. Using the­ory and prac­tical examp­les, the pro­fess­or­ship should exam­ine the social found­a­tions, frame­work con­di­tions, and con­trol cap­ab­il­it­ies of socio-spa­tial com­pat­ible plan­ning and urban devel­op­ment. App­lic­ants are expec­ted to have know­ledge in two of the fol­low­ing top­ics:
  • Space-rela­ted mar­gin­al­iz­a­tion and exclu­sion pro­ces­ses and aspects of the fur­ther devel­op­ment of infra­struc­tures as goods and ser­vices of pub­lic ser­vices
  • Spa­tial char­ac­ter­ist­ics and con­sequen­ces of increas­ing socio-cul­tural and socio-eco­nomic diver­sity and plur­al­iz­a­tion of life­styles in cit­ies for spa­tial plan­ning
  • Gen­der and diver­sity-com­pat­ible plan­ning and inter­cul­tural urban devel­op­ment prac­tice
The devel­op­ment of at least one other field is expec­ted and will be taken into account when defin­ing the eval­u­ation cri­teria.

Teach­ing respons­ib­il­it­ies are to be ful­fil­led in the Urban and Regio­nal Plan­ning as well as Urban Design degree pro­grams in both Ger­man and Eng­lish.

The pos­i­tion hol­der is fur­ther requi­red to under­take addi­tio­nal teach­ing duties wit­hin the fac­ulty as well to per­form duties relat­ing to aca­demic self-admin­is­tra­tion.

Require­ments:

App­lic­ants must ful­fill the hir­ing require­ments pur­su­ant to Sec­tion 102c Ber­lin State Hig­her Edu­ca­tion Act in com­bin­a­tion with Sec­tion 102a Ber­lin State Hig­her Edu­ca­tion Act. Of par­tic­u­lar import­ance are a uni­ver­sity degree in urban plan­ning, geo­gra­phy, soci­ology or a com­par­able sub­ject rela­ted to plan­ning and spa­tial sci­ences; a strong apti­tude for rese­arch demon­stra­ted, as a rule, by an out­stand­ing doc­tor­ate as well as teach­ing skills demon­stra­ted by a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for fur­ther inform­a­tion, see Tech­nis­che Uni­ver­si­tät Ber­lin’s web­site: https://www.tu-berlin.de/menue/university_institutions/executive_board/projekte_des_praesidiums/neuberufene/berufungsportal/applying_for_a_professorship/teaching_portfolio/parameter/en/).

Applicants must be able to con­duct teach­ing in Ger­man and Eng­lish. The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate is expec­ted to assume respons­ib­il­ity for lead­ing a rese­arch group and man­aging its staff, should pos­sess the requis­ite skills for the advance­ment of junior schol­ars and women and to deal with the issue of gen­der and diver­sity, as well as show act­ive com­mit­ment to know­ledge and tech­no­logy trans­fer and sci­ence com­mu­nic­a­tion.
