PhD student

Department of Hematology, Oncology, and Tumor Immunology

Working field:

We are seeking applications from highly motivated candidates for a PhD student position in experimental hematology with a strong translational focus. The position is embedded within the Emmy Noether Group led by Prof. Jan Krönke at the department of Hematology, Oncology, and Tumor Immunology at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The main research focus of the lab is to investigate the role of the ubiquitin-proteasome system in the pathogenesis and treatment of hematologic malignancies with the goal of developing new targeted treatments. The project is within the SFB-1074 - Experimental Models and Translation in Leukemia.

  • Conduct a research project on Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) with the focus on developing targeted drug therapies
  • Perform cutting edge functional molecular and protein biochemistry methods including CRISPR/Cas9-based genetic screens, proteomics, primary patient samples and in vivo experiments
  • Development and testing of new therapies modulating the ubiquitin-proteasome-system (e.g., molecular glues, PROTACs)
  • We are closely collaborating with researchers at the Charite, the Max Delbrück Centre for Molecular Medicine, the SFB-1074, as well as other national and international research groups
  • Mentoring and support by a Postdoctoral researcher and will be encouraged to join the "Berlin School of Integrative Oncology" graduate school program

For further information about our research please see publications of our group, e.g. Steinebach, Ng et al. Chemical Science 2020; Meyer et al., Leukemia 2020; Krönke et al., Nature 2015; Krönke et al., Science 2014.

Scientific staff is given sufficient time to carry out their own scientific work in accordance with their employment relationship.

We are looking forward to receiving applications from candidates with the following profile:
  • Master's degree or equivalent in biology, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, bioengineering or other related subjects
  • Experience in molecular biology (i.e. molecular cloning, CRISPR/Cas9, flow cytometry, western blot, RNA and DNA analyses)
  • Experience in data analysis and presentation
  • Interest in cancer biology and chemical biology
  • Very good English (lab language) and communication skills
  • Please include 1-2 references / letter of recommendation in your application
