The successful candidate is required to teach and undertake research into sociology with a focus on spatial sociology and represent the subject in its broadest sense on the level of sociological theories or methods. Active involvement in Collaborative Research Center 1265 “Re-figuration of Spaces” is of particular importance. The successful candidate is expected to pursue research into sociological spatial theory in addition to empirical spatial research.
Within research, emphasis is to be placed on interdisciplinary and intercultural cooperation as well as on communication between science and practice.
It is preferred that applicants have research experience in urban sociology and/or inequality research/social structure analysis. Inequality research is understood to include post-colonial theory and gender research. Should the candidate have not yet pursued a research focus in urban and/or inequality sociology, they are expected to develop such a research focus in the future.
Teaching will focus on the relevant compulsory and compulsory elective modules in the “Sociology and Technology Studies”, and “Urban and Regional Planning” bachelor’s and master’s programs. The position holder is further required to undertake additional teaching duties within the faculty as well to perform duties relating to academic self-administration.
Willingness to participate in interdisciplinary projects addressing spatial issues, particularly in cooperation with the Institute of Urban and Regional Planning at TU Berlin, is expected as is a willingness to work on establishing research links to the University’s main research areas (particularly in engineering disciplines). Given the importance of innovation as a research area within the Institute of Sociology, research interest in this area is also expected. Participation in international committees and research groups is required.
The position holder should be supported in the field of spatial sociology by relevant publications.
Applicants must be able to conduct teaching in German and English. The successful candidate is expected to assume responsibility for leading a research group and managing its staff, should possess the requisite skills for the advancement of junior scholars and women and in the area of gender and diversity, as well as show active commitment to knowledge and technology transfer and science communication.
Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding is desired.
