Work­ing field:

Con­duct research as part of an inter­na­tional net­work within the pro­ject "Addit­ively man­u­fac­tured PLA-con­tinu­ous fibre rein­forced PLA-Com­pos­ite for rural farm­ing". Your key tasks will be:

  • Man­u­fac­tur­ing of novel fibre rein­forced plastic fil­a­ments for 3D print­ing using extru­sion (in cooper­a­tion with the Dept. for Poly­mer Tech­no­logy),
  • 3D-print­ing (FDM) of test spe­ci­mens using the novel fil­a­ment,
  • Plan­ning and con­duct­ing tensile exper­i­ments for mater­ial char­ac­ter­iz­a­tion,
  • Ana­lyt­ical and numer­ical mod­el­ing of the com­pos­ite mater­ial (in cooper­a­tion with Uppsala Uni­versitet),
  • Life-Cycle-Assess­ment (LCA) and ana­lyses of recyc­ling poten­tials as well as local needs for applic­a­tions in rural farm­ing in the con­text of the UN Sus­tain­able Devel­op­ment Goals (in cooper­a­tion with MichiganTech),
  • CAD mod­el­ing and pos­sibly struc­tural sim­u­la­tions of devices made from the novel mater­ial,
  • Dis­cus­sion and fur­ther devel­op­ment of the pro­ject's guid­ing ques­tions in the inter­na­tional team.

Require­ments:

  • suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) in engin­eer­ing (mech­an­ical engin­eer­ing, mater­i­als engin­eer­ing or sim­ilar).
  • Applic­ants should be able to work inde­pend­ently and as part as a team.
  • Spoken and writ­ten Eng­lish on a high level is strictly neces­sary; good ger­man lan­guage skills.
  • An inter­dis­cip­lin­ary focus and interest in soci­etal issues are expli­citly wel­come.
  • Ideally, applic­ants have ini­tial exper­i­ence in LCA, sus­tain­able product devel­op­ment or sim­ilar areas.
  • Exper­i­ence in mech­an­ical mod­el­ing of mater­i­als and sim­u­la­tions is an advant­age.
