The Institute for Parasitology and Tropical Veterinary Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Freie Universität Berlin has gained ample experience in over more than 50 years of research and training in tropical veterinary medicine and parasitology. A major focus of its Research and Development activities are the diagnosis and control of emerging and re-emerging diseases, including vector-borne and zoonotic diseases.

The candidate will be responsible for establishing an active research programme in line with the institute's research themes entailing an involvement and supervision of work performed by international PhD and internship students. The candidate is expected to participate in teaching tropical veterinary medicine and parasitology. There are opportunities for collaborative research with other institutes, in particular with the Veterinary Center for Resistance Research (VCR2).
Veterinary Medicine Degree (DVM) and doctoral degree (PhD or Dr. med. vet.)
We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative person who is interested in working within a multidisciplinary and international team. The successful candidate will have a veterinary degree with a PhD (or equivalent), professional working experience in tropical regions and extended knowledge on tropical veterinary medicine. A license to practice veterinary medicine in Germany (Approbation) is considered an advantage. The appointee should have a research record including peer-reviewed publications in international journals with a focus on infectious diseases and/or parasitology. The candidate should have proven evidence of comprehensive training/experience in molecular biology, bioinformatics and statistics. Experience in proteome and transcriptome analysis methods is considered an advantage. She or he is fluent in English and German, or willing to acquire a solid basis of the German language within 1-2 years.
