The Ber­lin Math­em­at­ics Research Cen­ter MATH+ sets out to advance math­em­at­ics itself and its inter­dis­cip­lin­ary power with the aim of achiev­ing pro­gress on grand chal­lenges in a wide vari­ety of applic­a­tion fields.

Job descrip­tion:

The pos­i­tion is part of the research pro­ject EF4-5 "An agent-based under­stand­ing of Green Growth" in MATH+ to be car­ried out by the junior research group "Math­em­at­ics for sus­tain­ab­il­ity trans­itions" of Dr. Sarah Wolf at Freie Uni­versität Ber­lin. The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate shall develop, val­id­ate and ana­lyse a series of eco­nomic agent-based mod­els for under­stand­ing Green Growth, that is, a trans­ition to a car­bon neut­ral eco­nomy that comes with bene­fits also in eco­nomic and social dimen­sions. The ABMs shall be groun­ded in a back­ground of stand­ard eco­nomic model res­ults and shall be math­em­at­ic­ally ana­lysed in terms of iter­ated games on net­works and/or inter­act­ing particle sys­tems. The oppor­tun­ity for obtain­ing a doc­tor­ate is provided.


Com­pleted uni­versity stud­ies (mas­ter's degree or equi­val­ent) in Math­em­at­ics or a related dis­cip­line.


• Exper­i­ence in some or all of the fol­low­ing fields: agent-based and/or eco­nomic mod­el­ling, game the­ory and evol­u­tion­ary game the­ory, dynam­ical sys­tems, stochastic pro­cesses

• Exper­i­ence with inter­dis­cip­lin­ary work

• Good com­mand of writ­ten and spoken Eng­lish; Ger­man is an asset

• An interest in the topic of sus­tain­ab­il­ity trans­itions

• Good pro­gram­ming skills
