Work­ing field:

Research and teach­ing at the Insti­tute of Math­em­at­ics, in par­tic­u­lar in the field of applied math­em­at­ics with a focus on math­em­at­ical meth­ods in image and data sci­ence, in par­tic­u­lar vec­tor- and man­i­fold-val­ued image pro­cessing and its applic­a­tions; research will focus on some of the top­ics trans­port, LDDMM, meta­morph­osis, approx­im­a­tion of meas­ures, neural net­works, pro­cessing of vec­tor- and man­i­fold-val­ued data; teach­ing assist­ance (4 SWS for a full-time pos­i­tion) in math­em­at­ics and related top­ics at the Insti­tute of Math­em­at­ics, e.g. super­vising of stu­dents and their sci­entific theses.


  • suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) in math­em­at­ics
  • in-depth know­ledge in the field of func­tional ana­lysis (ideally also in Four­i­er­ana­lysis), and non­lin­ear optim­iz­a­tion as well as con­vex ana­lysis
  • know­ledge on the estim­a­tion of motion in image sequences (in par­tic­u­lar in con­nec­tion with optimal trans­port)
  • prac­tical exper­i­ence in soft­ware devel­op­ment in sev­eral com­mon pro­gram­ming lan­guages like e.g, C, C++, Python
  • flu­ency in Ger­man and Eng­lish
  • abil­ity to work in a team
