University Professor of English Didactics
Salary grade: W2 or equivalent | Reference code: Didaktik Englisch
The successful applicant will cover research and teaching in the field named above.
Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Article 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:
The scope of the professorship will include working closely with the Dahlem School of Education (DSE) as well as other departments and divisions that offer teacher training programs at Freie Universität Berlin. The new professor will also be expected to contribute to the development and establishment of research associations. They will also work with the “Q-Master/k2teach” programs that train “career-changers” entering the professional field of education from another field. The appointee should be prepared to collaborate with other members of the institute outside the field of didactics. They will also be expected to address gender and diversity issues as part of their research and teaching.
Appointment requirements are governed by Article 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).
Applicants should hold a university degree in English in a program including components in didactics. They should also have at least three years of teaching experience in primary or secondary education and/or a doctoral degree in or with a focus on English didactics with additional research experience in the field of English didactics conducted in school or in cooperation with schools. The candidate should also have an excellent record of – preferably international – research activities in the field of evidenced-based foreign language didactics. They should have academic teaching experience in English didactics – if possible in an international context – and be comfortable teaching in both English and German. They should also have experience with projects financed through third-party funding.
