The Institute for Art History and Historical Urban Studies at Technische Universität Berlin has a practical and object-focused orientation which clearly defines the Bachelor programme “Culture and Technology – Core Subject Art History” as well as the research-oriented Master programme “Art History” with the majors “Art Technology” and “Museum” (in cooperation with the Berlin State Museums). The academic focus of the department of Modern Art History is on questions of art history as cultural history, as on the aesthetic, social, political, and institutional constellations which have shaped the production, circulation and consumption of art since the 19th century.
Research and teaching involvement, in particular with regard to Modern Art History, with a focus on contemporary art
Preparation of a doctoral thesis
Teaching classes for the interdisciplinary Bachelor programme “Culture and Technology”, as well as for the research-oriented Master programme “Art History / Art technology” respectively “Art History /Museum”
Proactive participation in shaping the institute’s profile, independent conception of own (project) seminars and scholarly events
Administrative and organisational tasks for the institute

Successfully completed university degree (Diplom, Master or equivalent) in art history
Excellent knowledge of art history from the mid-20th century onwards
Dissertation subject in relation to the vacancy profile
Research interests with a clear correlation to the institute’s focus (art historical transfer and network research, postcolonial studies, art as a political category, institutional history)
Excellent German and English language knowledge, good knowledge of French also desirable
Teaching experience in art history is advantageous
Candidates will also be expected to share knowledge and interests with the different research projects based at the Institute, and should be team players
