Work­ing field:

The suc­cess­ful app­li­cant will cover the area of phy­si­cal che­mi­stry in rese­arch and tea­ching. The pro­fes­sor­ship is loca­ted at the insti­tute for Che­mi­stry and Bio­che­mi­stry and has a rese­arch focus in app­li­ca­tion – ori­en­ta­ted ques­ti­ons of phy­si­cal che­mi­stry

Apart from the offi­cial duties in accordance with Arti­cle 99 of the Ber­lin Hig­her Edu­ca­tion Act, we expect the appoin­tee to engage in the fol­lo­wing activi­ties:

  • She or he will cover tea­ching wit­hin the area of exper­tise in full width in the study pro­grams at the insti­tute for Che­mi­stry and Bio­che­mi­stry, espe­ci­ally the Bache­lor pro­gram as well as the Mas­ter pro­gram che­mi­stry, which is taught in Eng­lish.
  • The appoin­tee is expec­ted to col­la­bo­rate in exis­ting and future sub­ject-spe­ci­fic rese­arch focu­ses and a use­ful deve­lop­ment the­reof.
  • A par­ti­ci­pa­tion in the CRC 1349 "Fluo­rine-Spe­ci­fic Inter­ac­tions: Fun­da­men­tals and Func­tion", the Clus­ter of Excel­lence “Uni­sys­cat” or other rese­arch col­la­bo­ra­ti­ons estab­lished in Ber­lin is desi­red.
  • Pos­si­ble rese­arch areas are for example phy­si­co­che­mi­cal cha­rac­te­ri­za­tion of func­tio­nal mate­ri­als and/or inter­faces with a focus on a mole­cu­lar under­stan­ding of the under­ly­ing pro­ces­ses.
  • The appoin­tee is expec­ted to also address gen­der and diver­sity issues rele­vant to the field.


Appoint­ment requi­re­ments are gover­ned by Arti­cle 100 of the Ber­lin Hig­her Edu­ca­tion Act (Ber­li­ner Hoch­schul­ge­setz).

The suc­cess­ful can­di­date is requi­red to have a dis­tin­guis­hed inter­na­tio­nal track record in rese­arch and tea­ching in the area of phy­si­cal che­mi­stry, with a focus on app­li­ca­tion-ori­en­ted ques­ti­ons. We are loo­king for a can­di­date who are expe­ri­en­ced in tea­ching cour­ses of phy­si­cal che­mi­stry inde­pendently as well as expe­ri­ence in acqui­ring and lea­ding extern­ally fun­ded rese­arch pro­jects. App­li­cant should be able to teach semi­nars in Ger­man and Eng­lish.

App­li­ca­ti­ons should include a CV, copies of all cer­ti­fi­ca­tes of aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion in Ger­man or Eng­lish; if app­li­ca­ble the let­ter of appoint­ment (please add trans­la­ti­ons if nee­ded), a list of publi­ca­ti­ons, a list of cour­ses pre­viously taught, and evi­dence of tea­ching com­pe­tence. Fur­ther­more, please include infor­ma­tion on invol­ve­ment in ongo­ing and future rese­arch endea­vours, joint rese­arch pro­jects and extern­ally fun­ded pro­jects, and if necessary lan­guage cer­ti­fi­ca­tes. If app­li­ca­ble for the respec­tive con­tent area, please give infor­ma­tion on indus­trial coope­ra­tion, inven­ti­ons/patents and spin-offs.
