Working field:

You will join a collaborative research project, which is part of the priority programme, focused on developing working prototypes for combustion of NH3. The project focuses on heterogeneous catalysis, with aspects of computational chemistry, additive manufacturing and combustion science. Your project will be based in the ConCat Lab (, which is part of the Chair for Advanced Ceramic Materials at TU Berlin (

Your tasks will include:

  • Characterisation of precursors and active materials for NH3 decomposition
  • Support in the development of a NH3 safety concept for use with the existing test-stand
  • Collaborative development of formulations compatible with additive manufacturing
  • Testing of additively manufactured specimen
  • Supporting your experimental work using computational chemistry methods (DFT or MM)

There is the possibility of a doctorate, in which we will support you. In this case, we expect you to write publications, present at conferences, and work independently towards your scientific goal. As the project is collaborative, ability and willingness to travel to project partners is required. The position has an additional budget for international travel.



  • A successfully completed university degree (Master's, diploma, or equivalent) in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrable experience in basic safety protocols in working with toxic substances
  • Willingness and ability to travel to collaboration partners at the DLR / University of Stuttgart
  • Relevant skills and experience transferrable to any of the following research areas:
    o chemical reactor design
    o instrument automation
    o heterogeneous catalysis
    o or combustion research
  • Experience with DFT and/or MM modelling of relevant systems
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills


  • Experience in collaborative projects
  • Programming skills, preferably in Python (links to portfolios appreciated)
  • Willingness to travel internationally to collaborators and conferences
  • Ability to communicate
  • Ability and desire to work independently
