The Institute of Sociology at Freie Universität Berlin conducts research on current sociological questions. An international comparison, especially of European societies and the analysis of transnationalization and Europeanization processes are the core research areas of the Institute. Since 2006, the Institute offers the Master’s program "Sociology – European Societies," which can be studied in German and English. The research and teaching agenda is implemented together with the Central Institutes for East European Studies, Latin American Studies, and the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies as well as through close cooperation with the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) and the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW). Working field:

The advertised position is assigned to the research unit of Macrosociology (Prof. Dr. Celine Teney). It offers the opportunity for independent research and involvement in the research project “Migration and adaptation capabilities, aspirations and strategies of displaced Ukrainians in Berlin, Warsaw and Budapest”. In this project, we repeat semi-structured interviews among a sample of displaced Ukrainians in Berlin, Warsaw and Budapest over several year to understand their migration and integration experiences over time. The position also involves a teaching obligation of 3 hours per week which must be completed in the Master's program "Sociology - European Societies" and in English. The opportunity for own scientific qualification is granted.

Requirements:

Requirements:
Completed university degree (Master) in Sociology or a related discipline

Desirable:
  • Very good knowledge of qualitative empirical methods, including qualitative data analysis software such as MaxQDA or NVIVO
  • First experience with qualitative data collection
  • Interest in and very good knowledge of Sociology of Migration
  • Very good command of the English language (English is the teaching language)
  • Excellent command (level C2 or mother tongue) of the Ukrainian language (for involvement in the research project).
  • Genuine interest in university teaching and mentoring of students
