Research Assistant in the Application Center Smart Energy Systems in the field of charging infrastructure and electromobility - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

part-time employment may be possible

The DAI Laboratory of the Technical University Berlin is looking for a research assistant to join the interdisciplinary group of the application center "Smart Energy Systems". In this center, the activities and research focus on the new trends and applications of digitization and artificial intelligence to facilitate and overcome the new challenges of the energy transition. The position involves working on the project "EMoT - National Test Center for Electromobility". The EMoT’s goal project is to establish a central system for monitoring and increasing the quality of charging processes for electric vehicles in order to sustainably improve the user experience when charging. Due to the extended requirements and demands on the future charging process, such as the fully automated initiation and execution via Plug & Charge as well as the complete integration into the energy grid, the complexity will further increase due to the number of systems in the process chain.

Working field:

  • Development of tools for CPO and EMP
  • Development of communication protocols like ISO 151108, OCPP 2.0
  • Conduct simulation studies for charging behavior and energy management
  • Assemble hardware components for a charging station
  • Elaboration of project deliverables and reports

We offer:
  • International team and good networking with industry and research partners
  • Supervision of M.Sc. & B.Sc. theses at the Technische Universität Berlin on the project topics
  • Opportunity to do a Ph.D. at the interface of AI and energy or e-mobility and be an active member of the AC Energy team
  • Access to cutting edge infrastructure (GPU/CPU Cluster, Smart Micro Grid)

Requirements:

  • Successfully completed university studies (Master, Diploma or equivalent) in (Business) Informatics, Electrical Engineering/Renewable Energy Systems or comparable fields
  • Knowledge of concepts, methods and technologies in the areas of AI and machine learning, IoT and distributed systems (multi-agent systems, ...)
  • Good programming skills with a focus on the modelling, simulation and optimization of energy or mobility processes (ideally in Python)
  • Domain knowledge in energy systems or mobility is desirable
  • Experience in software engineering and agile software development methodologies is an advantage
  • Previous experience in academic/industrial collaborative projects is an advantage
  • Excellent knowledge of English and good knowledge of German; willingness to learn the respective missing languages
