Research Assistant - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

part-time employment may be possible

Working field:

  • research for the third-party funded project JaetRobi, at the Department of Agromechatronics, Institute of Machine Design and Systems Engineering, and at the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB), Potsdam
  • independent, responsible research activities in the fields of agricultural robotics / agromechatronics, in particular kinematic and electronic control of actuators for weed control using laser technology
Support of practical exercises and internships on agro-mechatronics within the scope of the research topic
  • supervision of final theses work and student projects on the research topic
  • preparation of project reports and support of the project management in administrative tasks
  • publication of research results in professional journals and presentation at professional conferences
  • intensive cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) in the planning, implementation and evaluation of experiments
  • support for the establishment of an agricultural robotics research laboratory of the department in cooperation with the ATB

Requirements:

  • a successfully completed scientific university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in mechatronics, agricultural engineering, electronics, mechanical engineering or comparable
  • experience in the field of (agricultural) mechatronics is required, in at least one of the areas: Programming of machine control systems, design of agromechatronic systems, use of measurement/optics/laser technology, ideally in field trials
  • knowledge of design and simulation programs (CAD, Matlab/Simulink) and at least one programming language (C, ROS, Python) is required
  • good written and spoken German language skills (reporting language) are required
  • a high level of self-motivation for independent research activity with the goal of a doctorate is required
  • experience in the processing and coordination of third-party funded projects is helpful
  • a high degree of willingness to work at changing locations as well as practical trial work in an agricultural environment (field) is expected
  • ideally, system development experience has been gained through (industry) internships
  • practical experience in the use of ROS, C, Python, Matlab/Simulink or comparable software for machine control is desirable
  • good written and spoken English language skills are an advantage
