Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­sität Ber­lin - Faculty IV (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science), Institute for Software Engineering and Theoretical Computer Science and the Berlin Institute for Foundations of Learning and Data (BIFOLD) invite applications for the position of a

University Professor - salary grade W3

in the field of “Management of Large-Scale Data Science Processes”.

Working field:

The professorship should cover at least three of the following topic areas in the context of big data processing in research and teaching:
(i) scalable, easy-to-use technologies and systems for managing the entire, iterative data science workflow, from source selection and data prepration via information integration and model building to deployment and management
(ii) technologies and systems for responsible data management, in particular traceability, reproducibility and debugging of data sources and data analysis pipelines
(iii) technologies and systems for scalable information visualization and big data mining, in particular for the ad-hoc analysis of large heterogeneous data streams with low latency
(iv) scalable database management systems

Further responsibilities include leading and managing the research group and its staff; supporting the advancement of junior scholars, women, and diversity; knowledge and technology transfer; initiatives to promote internationalization; working practices reflecting gender and diversity competence as well as issues of sustainability; teaching in the area of data mangement in German and English; committee work.


We are looking for a scientist whose previous experience enables them to conduct independent systems-oriented research and teaching in at least three of the areas referred to above.

Pursuant to Section 100 of the Berlin State Higher Education Act, the hiring requirements for this professorhship include a university degree with a focus on computer science, a strong aptitude for research work (as a rule demonstrated by a doctorate) in the area of database systems, additional academic achievements (as a rule a positively assessed junior professorship, a Habilitation, or equivalent achievements) as well as an aptitude for and experience of teaching demonstrated by a teaching portfolio (for further details, please refer to the website of Technische Universität Berlin).

Additional requirements include research experience in a number of the areas outlined above (see working field/responsibilities) as well as extensive experience of international research collaboration (demonstrated by research stays abroad and/or significant involvement in international projects).
