Full Professorship (W2) for “Pedagogics for Visual Impairments”

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, invites applications for a Full Professorship (W2) for “Pedagogics for Visual Impairments” starting as soon as possible.

Working field:

The future holder of the position should represent the field in its entirety and is expected to carry out interdisciplinary teaching commitments (e.g. in research methods) in the Institute's teaching-related and non-school bachelor's and master's degree programs in special education/rehabilitation education. The applicant should have a strong research and teaching profile in the field of education with visual impairments. This includes the following criteria:

  • Visual impairments as a focus in research and teaching
  • Two or more research foci, at least one of which should be from the following topics:

  • Lifelong learning
  • Neuroplasticity
  • Diagnostics
  • Didactics
  • Perspectives on multiple disabilities

  • Clearly visible empirical research reference
  • The development of pedagogical perspectives is expected

Furthermore, experience in research collaborations is expected. International research-based relations are desirable.

The profile of Rehabilitation Sciences at Humboldt-Universität includes a complex structure across disciplines and subject boundaries (pedagogy, sociology, psychology, linguistics, etc.) as well as research approaches. Regardless of specializations, cooperation across thematic, paradigmatic, and methodological boundaries is expected (e.g. in the Center for Inclusion Research Berlin, in the Competence Center Rehabilitation Sciences, and in the Curative Education Archive).


The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the `Berliner Hochschulgesetz`.

A high level of motivation and pedagogical aptitude for teaching at a university in school-related as well as non-school-related Bachelor’s and Master’s programs are expected. The clear pedagogical orientation of the professorship and the qualification of the future holder of the position for that must be made clear through the submission of two concise concept papers regarding the applicant’s past and future research and teaching. A pedagogical orientation in non-school-related fields of action would also be desirable.
