Research Assistant - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

part-time employment may be possible

The chair of "Information Systems Engineering (ISE)" under the supervision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Tai teaches and conducts research in the area of quality-driven, continuous engineering of future-oriented distributed software systems, with a focus on cloud-native platforms and applications, blockchain technologies and innovations, and privacy engineering.

Working field:

In the research project "Gaia-X4PLC-AAD" (Production, After-Sales and PLC - Across Automated Driving) within the "Gaia-X4 Future Mobility" funding program, we at the ISE chair together with several other renowned industry and research partners are exploring the efficient, confidential and traceable exchange of data in data ecosystems for automated driving. For this purpose, a suitable hybrid architecture is being developed that combines decentralized, DLT-based components with classic (cloud) components and services.

We are looking for a research assistant (m/f/non-binary) for:
  • Passionate research and development within this project
  • Innovative research and development in the area of Blockchain-/DTL-based applications and in particular regarding on-/off-chaining approaches to enable traceable yet confidential data settlement
  • Research and development of novel approaches for quality-driven design, observation and experimental evaluation of such hybrid architectures.
  • Scientific dissemination of results at national and international conferences and workshops.

The opportunity to do a doctorate is given and explicitly encouraged.

The project-related knowledge transfer and the subject-specific exchange with renowned partners in industry and science, also within the framework of ongoing national and European lighthouse projects in the field (e.g., in the new EU Horizon Program), are also tasks within this project.

  • Successfully completed university degree (master, diplom or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Systems Engineering/Management, Industrial Engineering or a related field of study.
  • In-depth knowledge regarding the design and operation of distributed systems
  • Knowledge in one of the following fields is expected: Blockchain technologies and applications and/or cloud infrastructure and related technologies
  • In-depth knowledge in the field of data management
  • Knowledge in one of the following fields is desirable: off-chaining, zero-knowledge proofs, privacy and/or observability of distributed applications
  • Ability to communicate and work in a team, independent working style, high motivation
  • Very good knowledge of the German and English language
