University Professor - salary grade W3

for the field of "Catalytic Reaction Engineering" funded by the “Berliner Programm zur Förderung der Chancengleichheit für Frauen in Forschung und Lehre”.

Working field:

The primary responsibilities for this position will be teaching within the entire range of the subject of Chemical Reactor and Reaction Engineering (“Technische Chemie”) and the Bachelor/Master courses “Chemistry”, “Chemical Engineering” and “Polymer Science”. Courses should be held in German and English. Furthermore, candidates are expected to supervise students’ theses on Bachelor, Master and PhD level as well as to participate in the academic administration of the university.
Research should be related to modern topics in Chemical Reactor and Reaction Engineering (“Technische Chemie”) with an emphasis on Chemical Catalysis on solid surfaces studied by experimental methods and spectroscopy and especially related to sustainable chemistry. The candidates’ field of research should offer ample opportunities for cooperation with research groups of the Excellence Cluster UniSyscat.
Further responsibilities include leadership and management of the work group and its staff, promotion of young scholars, women and social diversity, knowledge and technology transfer, internationalization initiatives, gender- and diversity-competent and sustainability-oriented action.

Requirements:

Candidates must fulfil the requirements and prerequisites according to § 100 BerlHG. This includes a completed academics education in chemistry or chemical engineering or related subject, PhD and Habilitation or equivalent scientific qualifications that must be proven by international peer-reviewed publications in relevant journals. Furthermore, pedagogical-didactic qualifications are expected, demonstrated by teaching experience and visualized in a teaching portfolio (for further information see TUB website https://www.tu-berlin.de/menue/einrichtungen/praesidium/projekte_des_praesidiums/neuberufene/berufungsportal/bewerbung/lehrportfolio/parameter/en/).

Suitable candidates should have a proven track record of independent, internationally visible scientific work in an experimental area of Chemical Reactor and Reaction Engineering (“Technische Chemie”) of catalyzed reactions on solid surfaces. They also must have a proven record of graduating Master and PhD students as well as of service to the department. Appointees should demonstrate prior experimental expertise with regards to chemical reactor design, modern catalytic and physicochemical characterization of catalytic interfaces and reactions using in-situ and operando spectroscopy. Ability and willingness to work in interdisciplinary teams e. g. at the interface of theory and experiment is a central requirement. Candidates with prior research expertise focusing on UHV surface science and catalysis as well as electrochemistry, electrocatalysis as well as the theoretical description of catalytic processes enjoy lower priority. High research activity should be substantiated by relevant publications in peer-review journals and successful grant proposals within the last 5 years.
Creative engagement in support of start-ups in the chemical sciences in the frame of the Chemical Invention Factory (CIF) at TU Berlin is also expected.
Applicants must show teaching experiences at university level. Additional experience in advising and supervising Bachelor, Master and doctoral students is expected as well as experience in academic administration and in leading larger research groups.
