University Professor of Political Science with Focus on the Theoretical and Legislative Foundations of Politics

Work­ing field:

The appointed candidate will cover research and teaching in the field of political science with a focus on the theoretical and legislative foundations of politics.

Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Section 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:

The new professor will be expected to assume teaching responsibilities in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in political science, in particular for the module “Theory, History of Ideas, and Foundations of Politics” in the bachelor degree program and for the thematic field of “Theory and Foundations of Political Science” at the master’s level. They will also participate in the various research partnerships and networks with which the department is involved. The appointee is also expected to engage with gender and diversity issues within the scope of their research and teaching.

Require­ments:

Appointment requirements are governed by Section 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).

In addition, applicants must hold a doctoral degree or additional academic qualifications and achievements (as defined under Sections 100.2 and 100.6 of the Berlin Higher Education Act) in the field of political science. They should have a record of outstanding, international research activities with a focus on the area of “theoretical and legislative foundations of politics,” demonstrated through publications in reviewed journals. They must be able to contribute to an advanced understanding of the history of ideas in relation to the theoretical and legislative foundations of politics. Candidates should also have international teaching experience at the university level, experience in acquiring and leading externally funded research projects, and the ability to teach in German and English. We are also interested in applicants with experience in supervising and implementing knowledge transfer activities.
