We are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated PhD student for a cooperation project between AG Mergenthaler, AG Meisel (Dept. of Experimental Neurology) and AG Stachelscheid (Berlin Institute of Health), funded by the Einstein Foundation Berlin within the Einstein Center 3R to investigate brain-immune interactions and mechanisms of neurodegeneration in human stem cell-based organoid models of the brain.
Your area of responsibility
In this project, you will:
Use human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) for the generation of immune cells and 3D organoid models of the brain
Work with models of neuronal damage / stroke
Perform multidimensional microscopy, high content microscopy and corresponding image / data analysis.
Scientific staff is given sufficient time to carry out their own scientific work in accordance with their employment relationship.
You have recently completed your university studies in life sciences, preferably with a focus on cell biology.
Knowledge in working with primary cells or stem cells is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.
You are familiar with cell biological, molecular biological and biochemical standard techniques.
You are interested and willing to familiarize yourself with the methods of automated microscopy (high content analysis) and multidimensional image analysis and data analysis (R or Python), as well as with basic research in the clinical neurosciences.
An independent way of working, exact documentation of all work steps, willingness to establish new techniques and to prepare data analyses independently, as well as a very good knowledge of English are required.
