Technische Universität Berlin
Faculty III - Process Sciences, Institute of Biotechnology, Applied and Molecular Microbiology
Research Assistant - 0.8 working time
Your responsibility
In this cooperation project, (bio)technological processes developed by the FU and TU Berlin are used to produce novel building materials from construction and demolition waste. This is intended to make a contribution to climate-neutral industrial bioproduction. The research topic aims to change the material properties of the fungal mycelium in the material using genetic engineering manipulation. In addition, the interaction of the fungus with other material components is characterized. The candidate will use genetic methods to modify fungi and multi-omics approaches for their analysis. Furthermore, samples are produced in close collaboration with the project partners to examine the mechanical, building physics and durability-relevant properties of the material.
Your profile
- Successfully completed scientific university degree (diploma, master's or equivalent) in the field of biotechnology, biochemistry or comparable with a focus on microbiology or molecular biology
- Good command of German and/or English required; willingness to learn either English or German is expected
- Initial experience in genetic engineering work with microorganisms in the laboratory
- Initial experience with biochemical methods (extraction of DNA, RNA, and proteins)
- Experience working with fungi or producing and testing of biomaterials is desirable
