The Berlin University Alliance (BUA) is the joint association of four Berlin universities: Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität of Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The four partners have joined forces to further develop the science landscape in Berlin.

The project “A Digital Research Space for the BUA” is a joint initiative of Technische Universität Berlin (Quality and Usability Lab; Open Distributed Systems Group) and Freie Universität Berlin (Human-Centered Computing Group) and is embedded in Objective 3 “advancing research quality and value” and Objective 5 “sharing resources” of the BUA.

Working field:

The platform is intended to allow for the interactive search, exploration, visualization, and analysis of research data. It is further meant to demonstrate open science within concrete usage scenarios in the everyday work of researchers in various disciplines. Specifically, it involves the implementation of a graphical user interface (for search, exploration, visualization, and analysis of research data), various basic functions, the connection to external data and knowledge sources, as well as the integration of existing components.

  • Development of an open science platform for research data based on already existing components,
  • evaluation of relevant approaches and systems, and selection of suitable frameworks and technologies,
  • collaboration with regional, national, and international partners,
  • research in the areas of digitalization of science and research data infrastructures and regular presentation and publication of research results,
  • teaching in the open distributed systems group.
