Research assistant (postdoc) (m/f/d)

full-time job | limited to 4 years | Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L FU | Reference code: PhyKu_01/21

Working field:

The position is assigned to the workgroup of Prof. W. Kuch, which has experience investigating ultrathin magnetic films, surfaces, adsorbed molecules, and nanostructures that may become relevant in a future spin-based electronics. Besides unconventional spin structures at surfaces, the focus is also on spin and magnetization dynamics. Experiments are carried out both by laboratory-based techniques as well as by using synchrotron radiation.

Job description:
The duties linked to the position include research in the field of x-ray spectroscopy of magnetic materials, in particular the active participation in project A07 "Bridging the time scales between ultrafast and precessional magnetization dynamics" of the transregional collaborative research center 227 "Ultrafast Spin Dynamics", the planning and implementation of thirdparty-funded projects for the investigation of magnetic layers, two-dimensional materials, and molecular adsorbates by synchrotron radiation, as well as teaching at the physics department. The successful candidate is responsible for the preparation and organization of beamtimes at the Berlin synchrotron radiation source BESSY II or at other synchrotron radiation sources. Experimental methods employed are static and time-resolved x-ray absorption and reflectance spectroscopy, photoelectron emission microscopy as well as standard methods from surface science. Aptitude provided, a german “habilitation” may be pursued.

Requirements:

Requirements:

A doctoral degree (PhD) in physics is required.

Desirable:

Experience with x-ray spectroscopy of magnetic layered systems, two-dimensional materials, or adsorbed molecules as well as magnetization dynamics is desired.
Applications must include a complete CV, an abstract (max. one page) of the PhD thesis, list of publications, as well as names and addresses (postal and e-mail) of two or three persons willing to provide confidential letters of reference. Only complete applications will be considered.

For further information, please contact Herr Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kuch (magnetism@physik.fu-berlin.de / +49 30 838 52098).

How to apply:

All applications (including a short cover letter outlining your background, a detailed CV including possibly some references, and all relevant certificates) quoting the reference code should be directed no later than December 14th, 2020 preferably electronically in one PDF-file to: Frau Marion Badow: magnetism@physik.fu-berlin.de oder per Post an die
