The Insti­tute for Para­sit­o­logy and Trop­ical Veter­in­ary Medi­cine at the Fac­ulty of Veter­in­ary Medi­cine of the Freie Uni­versität Ber­lin has gained ample exper­i­ence in over more than 50 years of research and train­ing in trop­ical veter­in­ary medi­cine and para­sit­o­logy. A major focus of its Research and Devel­op­ment activ­it­ies are the dia­gnosis and con­trol of emer­ging and re-emer­ging dis­eases, includ­ing vec­tor-borne and zoonotic dis­eases.

Work­ing field:

The can­did­ate will be respons­ible for estab­lish­ing an act­ive research pro­gramme in line with the insti­tute's research themes entail­ing an involve­ment and super­vi­sion of work per­formed by inter­na­tional PhD and intern­ship stu­dents. The can­did­ate is expec­ted to par­ti­cip­ate in teach­ing trop­ical veter­in­ary medi­cine and para­sit­o­logy. There are oppor­tun­it­ies for col­lab­or­at­ive research with other insti­tutes, in par­tic­u­lar with the Veter­in­ary Cen­ter for Res­ist­ance Research (VCR2).


Veter­in­ary Medi­cine Degree (DVM) and doc­toral degree (PhD or Dr. med. vet.)


We are look­ing for an enthu­si­astic and cre­at­ive per­son who is inter­ested in work­ing within a mul­tidiscip­lin­ary and inter­na­tional team. The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate will have a veter­in­ary degree with a PhD (or equi­val­ent), pro­fes­sional work­ing exper­i­ence in trop­ical regions and exten­ded know­ledge on trop­ical veter­in­ary medi­cine. A license to prac­tice veter­in­ary medi­cine in Ger­many (Approb­a­tion) is con­sidered an advant­age. The appointee should have a research record includ­ing peer-reviewed pub­lic­a­tions in inter­na­tional journ­als with a focus on infec­tious dis­eases and/or para­sit­o­logy. The can­did­ate should have proven evid­ence of com­pre­hens­ive train­ing/exper­i­ence in molecu­lar bio­logy, bioin­form­at­ics and stat­ist­ics. Exper­i­ence in pro­teome and tran­scrip­tome ana­lysis meth­ods is con­sidered an advant­age. She or he is flu­ent in Eng­lish and Ger­man, or will­ing to acquire a solid basis of the Ger­man lan­guage within 1-2 years.
