University Professor - salary grade W3
for the chair of "Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM)".
The professorship is part of the Werner-von-Siemens Centre for Industry and Science (WvSC) and it is intended that the position is associated with the leadership of the center for "3D Technologies and Additive Manufacturing".
Conducting research and teaching in the field of Design for Additive Manufacturing (AM). Both theoretical potential assessments and experimental validations must be integrated in a new development methodology.
The research will investigate the new design possibilities created by AM in different application domains and analyze the constructive freedom of AM in comparison to other manufacturing processes. The new development methodologies must be suitable for implementation in digital development tools and should support future agile development processes. Focus should be put on
AM design rules including component optimization
Integrative product development process under consideration of additive manufacturing
Design for X under consideration of additive manufacturing
Automated design support using artificial intelligence
Teaching the basics of engineering design and DFAM in the engineering Bachelor's programs as part of existing courses as well as in the context of independent courses. In the master's programs, specialized DFAM courses and laboratory exercises are to be offered.
Candidates must fulfill the appointment requirements for professorships in accordance with §100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act) [information sheet available by request]. This includes a completed course of academic studies in a relevant field, qualified achievements in research (PhD), post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent scientific achievements, and pedagogical didactic qualifications (proven by a teaching portfolio. The future holder of the position is expected to have proven scientific knowledge in the above-mentioned field of vocation from application-related technology research and the ability to develop and validate technical system solutions.
A personality is sought that offers a high degree of willingness to cooperate with academic and industrial partners and that furthermore has the qualifications for personnel management. Practical work experience with an international orientation related to the working field mentioned above is desirable.
Proven experience in the acquisition and, if possible, management of national and international third-party funded projects is required.
Very good English skills are desirable. For non-German speaking applicants, the willingness to learn the language is expected. Courses have to be taught in German and English.
