The Depart­ment of Energy Sys­tems is one of the most dis­tin­guished aca­demic insti­tu­tions in Ger­many and inter­na­tion­ally with a focus on the energy industry. The depart­ment per­forms inter­dis­cip­lin­ary tasks and deals with the com­plex inter­ac­tions between tech­no­logy, polit­ics, soci­ety and the energy mar­kets.
The team is char­ac­ter­ized by staff with vari­ous pro­fes­sional back­grounds, the like of engin­eer­ing, eco­nom­ics and human­it­ies, on whose approaches and meth­ods the work is based. Our work focuses in par­tic­u­lar on the fol­low­ing top­ics:
  • Ana­lysis of energy and envir­on­mental policy frame­works and mar­ket design
  • Con­sid­er­a­tion of social aspects of energy trans­form­a­tions
  • Stud­ies on energy poverty, access to energy and devel­op­ment in the Global South
  • Ana­lysis of energy mar­ket and pri­cing struc­tures
  • Exam­in­a­tion of energy industry innov­a­tions and their sys­tem integ­ra­tion
In addi­tion to research, the depart­ment makes an import­ant con­tri­bu­tion to the edu­ca­tion of future decision-makers in the energy sec­tor with a com­pre­hens­ive range of courses, crit­ical sci­entific dis­course and the super­vi­sion of dis­ser­ta­tions.

Work­ing field:

Work in cur­rent research areas of the depart­ment. Inde­pend­ent research and pub­lic­a­tion activ­it­ies in the above-men­tioned fields as well as sup­port of pro­posal writ­ing. Sup­port of teach­ing in the depart­ment, includ­ing the cre­ation of IT-based exer­cises and organ­iz­a­tion and inde­pend­ent exe­cu­tion of exer­cises and pro­jects (in Ger­man and Eng­lish) as well as the super­vi­sion of theses. Teach­ing activ­it­ies cover the sub­ject areas of basic eco­nom­ics, energy eco­nom­ics, energy sys­tem ana­lysis as well as energy poverty and access to energy in the Global South. Within the scope of the activ­ity, the com­pet­ence to write and pub­lish at least one sci­entific pub­lic­a­tion should be acquired. The pos­sib­il­ity of writ­ing fur­ther pub­lic­a­tions and sum­mar­iz­ing them in a cumu­lat­ive dis­ser­ta­tion is given.

Require­ments:

  • Suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) in engin­eer­ing or busi­ness stud­ies with a focus on the energy industry
  • Pre­vi­ous know­ledge in the above men­tioned fields of work is desir­able
  • Good Ger­man and Eng­lish lan­guage skills required
  • Teach­ing exper­i­ence in the above areas is desir­able
