At the Institute of Optics and Atomic Physics of TU Berlin the research group Nonlinear Optics of Nanostructures (Prof. Woggon) deals with the opto-electronic properties of nanoscopic materials and functional structures structures.
The project is related to the optical and electronic properties of nanostructures and related 2D materials such as transitionmetal-dichalcogenides and others. These two dimensional semiconductors exhibit unique, new material properties, and are ideally suited to investigate basic aspects of 2D systems. The project focuses on examining their microscopic properties, e.g. the coherence of optically prepared states, the ultrafast dynamics and the exciton-phonon coupling, as well as their controlled modification in heterostructures and by external fields.
Embedded in a main research line of the work group on 2D materials it is planned to investigate the optical and electronic properties of semiconductor nanostructures and further 2D systems. The therefore applied methods include photoluminescence, ultrafast pump-probe heterodyne techniques, 2D-four-wave mixing and two photon spectroscopy. In close cooperation with internationally renowned research groups from synthesis and theory as partners, the experimental findings shall then be modeled. Contribution to teaching for Bachelor and Master students in Physics is expected.
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in physics or physical chemistry; an above average completion of an experimental/theoretical diplom/master thesis desired. Experience in at least one of the areas nanosystems, semiconductor physics, ultrafast physics/spectroscopy or (nonlinear) optics is desirable. Programming experience is of advantage for working on experimental questions and modelling. Good knowledge of German and English language is necessary.
