Work­ing field:

With BIFOLD, a cross-insti­tu­tio­nal and cross-disci­pli­nary com­pe­tence centre is being crea­ted, where sci­en­tists want to rese­arch and fur­ther deve­lop new approa­ches in the fields of Big Data (BD) and Machine Lear­ning (ML) and Arti­fi­cial Intel­li­gence (AI). BIFOLD sup­ports inde­pen­dent junior rese­arch groups in app­li­ca­tion-ori­en­ted basic rese­arch in mathe­ma­tics and com­pu­ter sci­ence in order to spe­ci­fi­cally pro­mote excel­lent young sci­en­tists* with several years of post­doc­to­ral expe­ri­ence and to give them a head start in buil­ding up their own rese­arch pro­file and group in the sup­por­ting envi­ron­ment of a large com­pe­tence cen­ter.

Job descrip­tion:
The offe­red posi­tion is one of the lea­ding posi­ti­ons of a BIFOLD junior rese­arch group at the FU Ber­lin. We are loo­king for a can­di­date with exten­sive expe­ri­ence and inde­pen­dent rese­arch results in the field of machine lear­ning, espe­ci­ally in ML for the sci­en­ces. She or he must be able to demons­trate inter­na­tio­nally visi­ble theo­re­ti­cal rese­arch results and app­li­ca­ti­ons to real com­plex sys­tems and to build brid­ges into pos­si­ble fields of app­li­ca­tion. She or he has expe­ri­ence in the sci­en­ti­fic ori­en­ta­tion, acqui­si­tion and/or imple­men­ta­tion of third-party fun­ded pro­jects.

Require­ments:

Dis­ser­ta­tion in Mathe­ma­tics, Phy­sics, Com­pu­ter Sci­ence or rela­ted disci­pli­nes.

Desi­ra­ble:

  • Expe­ri­ence in theory or method deve­lop­ment in Machine Lear­ning, espe­ci­ally at the inter­face bet­ween ML and the sci­en­ces.

  • Expe­ri­ence in hand­ling com­plex real world data sets

  • App­li­ca­tion expe­ri­ence in natu­ral or social sci­en­ces

  • Expe­ri­ence in inter­di­sci­pli­nary coope­ra­tion

  • Excel­lent writ­ten and spo­ken Eng­lish
