Work­ing field:

The Pro­cess Dynam­ics and Oper­a­tions Group is look­ing for a new col­league for an excit­ing new pro­ject (fund­ing decision pen­ding) on char­ac­ter­iz­a­tion of fluid dynam­ics and cou­pled mass trans­fer in fall­ing liquid films on struc­tured pack­ings. Wit­hin a DFG pro­ject, a detailed descrip­tion of the multi-phase flow and pre­sent mass trans­fer for micro struc­tured sur­faces is aimed for, using dir­ect numer­ical sim­u­la­tion (DNS) based on the Cahn-Hil­liard-Navier-Sto­kes equa­tion.
Spe­cific tasks wit­hin the pro­ject are:
  • Sys­tem­atic ana­lysis of the influ­ence of sin­gle and peri­od­ic­ally app­lied micro struc­tures on the absorp­tion of gaseous com­pounds in fall­ing liquid films via DNS
  • Exten­sion of an exist­ing fluid dyn. model regard­ing mass trans­fer and local phase equi­lib­ria
  • Devel­op­ment of a suit­able solu­tion frame­work for sim­u­la­tions (Python)

The mul­tidi­scip­lin­ary group is based in chem­ical engin­eer­ing, but can­did­ates from other engin­eer­ing dis­cip­lines or back­grounds are always wel­come. Regard­ing the descri­bed pos­i­tion, we are inter­ested in col­leagues with the fol­low­ing qual­i­fic­a­tions and inte­rests:

Require­ments:

  • suc­cess­fully com­ple­ted uni­ver­sity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) in energy and pro­cess engin­eer­ing, app­lied math­em­at­ics, mech­an­ical engin­eer­ing with focus on fluid mech­an­ics or alike; above aver­age degree desi­red
  • know­ledge on fluid dynam­ics, cou­pled with energy and mass trans­fer phe­nom­ena, as well as on numer­ical math­em­at­ics and solu­tion meth­ods
  • pro­gram­ming skills are man­dat­ory
  • ide­ally, know­ledge on dir­ect numer­ical sim­u­la­tions and imple­ment­a­tion of solu­tion meth­ods in Python using e.g.: FEn­iCS, PETSc, Docker
  • good com­mand of Ger­man and/or Eng­lish requi­red; the will­ing­ness to learn eit­her Eng­lish or Ger­man is expec­ted
